The 41st session of Flower Expo disseminates awareness about preserving crafts and environment

This year, Tourism Ministry and the Governorate of Damascus allocated large areas in the 14th session of Flower Expo for supporting  craftsmen, promoting the culture of recycling consumables and waste, raising  awareness about  the importance of preserving the environment  and activating  cultural activities for children. 
 
The  Flower Expo  , which kicked off on the 18th of July in Tishreen Park in Damascus,  displayed in Tourism Ministry’s pavilion a variety of flowers, trees and heritage pieces , which were  attracted by the  visitors,  especially the model of the  old Damascene house” , according to the Head of the Promotion Department at the Damascus Tourism Directorate, Eng. Abdul Bassit Khattab. 
 
Eng. Khattab  clarified to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA)   that the  Flower Expo  this year is characterized by the participation of more than 40 craftsmen, who displayed their handicraft works including  crochet, wool, beads and accessories, in addition to natural cosmetics. 
 
He pointed out that the ministry of tourism provided many facilities for those coming from the governorates by hosting them for free. 
 
The ministry also supervised, according to Khattab, the organization of  several cultural activities  including  theater performances for children and youth, an open-air cinema, folklore dances and shadow theater  performances with the aim of spreading fun among visitors, especially children. 
 
Eng. Victoria Tomjan, who is tasked with  the Summer Environmental Club at  the Environment Directorate in Damascus Governorate  drew attention to the implementation of awareness activities for children-  within the activities of the  Flower  Expo –  about the dangers of fires on forests and green spaces and encouraging children to participate in planting trees. 
 
Eng. Tomjan  stressed  that the Environment Directorate invested  the remarkable  turnout , which the Flower  Expo is witnessing  by all  age categories , especially children and housewives, to disseminate  environmental awareness and the importance of the individual’s role in protecting the environment. 
 
Eng.  Bassem Qaddourah, one of the participants in the event , indicated that they sought, through their participation, to encourage visitors to recycle and benefit from environmental waste in making useful things and giving an aesthetic view of places by placing wooden models made by recycling environmental waste.
