Minister of Information: Sanctions and siege are main obstacles that face the return of Syrian displaced people to homeland
Minister of Information in the caretaker government Imad Sarah affirmed on Monday that the Syrian state is exerting its utmost for the return of the Syrian displaced people and refugees, considering this issue as a priority, but the sanctions and economic blockade being imposed by Western countries against Syria impede this process.
During his participation in the Syrian-Russian joint meeting on the International Conference on the Return of Refugees at the Conferences Palace in Damascus, Sarah told reporters that the Syrian state attaches great importance to the return of the displaced people and works to ensure the appropriate environment for their return.
“The return of the Syrian displaced is a priority for the Syrian state, and this is what President Bashar Al-Assad emphasized in his inaugural speech,” he added.
Sarah went on to say: “The question is what do the countries hosting the Syrian refugees do for the return of those refugees to their homeland? Do they facilitate their return, or do they use them after they failed militarily as a political card to undermine Syria? The other question is what does the United Nations do to facilitate the return of the displaced? All of us know that the sanctions being imposed on Syria represent the main obstacle that face the return of the displaced people. You also know that if armed terrorism kills hundreds or thousands of Syrians, then the economic siege that is being practiced on Syria targets all Syrians.”
