Two water stations in Daraa stop working due to acts of vandalism that deprived 150,000 citizens from potable water
Water supplies to a number of villages in Daraa have stopped after unidentified persons vandalized two water stations in the province’s northwestern countryside, depriving more than 150,000 citizens from potable water, according to the General Establishment for Drinking Water in Daraa.
Deputy Director of the Establishment Osama Al-Qaderi said that unidentified persons attacked the building of the water station in Tal Al-Jumou’, which supplies the city of Nawa with water. They vandalized the station and stole a 400kv power transformer in addition to copper cables, leading the station to stop working.
He said that the establishment secured an alternative transformer in order to resume water pumping.
Al-Qaderi added that another attack targeted Al-Harra water station that works by solar energy. The vandals stole 80 solar panels and some equipments from the station, leading it to stop working, thereby depriving 30,000 citizens from water.
According to SANA reporter in Daraa, the authorities in charge have started investigation into the two attacks.
