Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal Al-Mikdad and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the accompanying delegation held a session of political and economic talks during which the two sides discussed issues of common interest.
Al-Mikdad reviewed prospects of cooperation between Syria and China in the fields of combating terrorism and economic development as well as political coordination at all international forums.
He noted the two countries’ rejection of unilateral coercive measures, expressing the Syrian government and people’s appreciation for China’s support for Syria in various fields.
Al-Mikdad noted that Syria and China recently celebrated the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, stressing that these relations are getting deeper and more distinguished day after day.
For his part, the Chinese minister indicated that exchanging support and cooperation between the two countries is a tradition which the two sides have adhered to since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
Wang Yi : We are committed to respecting Syria’s sovereignty , independence and territorial integrity
Wang stressed China’s commitment to respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, noting that the next stage will witness further consolidation of cooperation between Syria and China to strengthen the two countries’ ability to face the existing challenges.
During the session of economic and political talks, Head of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority Imad Al-Sabouni reviewed economic cooperation between Syria and China, pointing out that preparations are underway by the two sides to hold a meeting for the Sino-Syrian joint committee soon.
For her part, Assistant Minister of Economy Rania Ahmed presented some data on the volume of trade exchange with China and the possibility of enhancing economic and trade cooperation in addition to investment during the country’s reconstruction process.
Following the talks, an agreement on economic and technical cooperation between the government of the Syrian Arab Republic and the government of the People’s Republic of China was signed by the Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority and Chinese Ambassador in Damascus Feng Biao.
A document on the delivery of the first batch of food aid to Syria was also signed by President of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, Khaled Haboubati and the Chinese Ambassador.
