Foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement affirm their rejection of coercive measures, and violations of sovereignty of countries

Baku, (ST) – At the conclusion of their mid-term ministerial conference held in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, the foreign ministers of the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement adopted the political declaration of the conference, which affirmed the rejection of all forms of unilateral coercive measures imposed on the countries of the movement, calling for lifting these measures as they are invalid and illegitimate.

The foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement affirmed that, these coercive measures violate international law and constitute a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations.“The spread of Coronavirus pandemic also increased the negative effects of those measures,” the ministers said. They stressed their firm commitment to oppose any step that would violate the unity and territorial integrity of the member states and to respect their national sovereignty.

The foreign ministers of the countries of the movement expressed their firm commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms, confronting terrorist financing operations and refraining from providing any form of support terrorist groups.

The declaration of the conference also called on Israel to accede to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) without preconditions and immediately place its nuclear facilities under the IAEA’s comprehensive safeguards system.

The ministers renewed their support and solidarity with Syria to restore the occupied Syrian Golan and demanded that Israel, the occupying power, implement Resolution No. 497 of 1981. They considered the measures taken by Israel aimed at changing the legal and demographic status of the occupied Syrian Golan and its institutional status as null and void and having no legal effect.

The meetings of the mid-term ministerial conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, which were held virtually, under the title “The Non-Aligned Movement at the Center of Multilateral Efforts to Address Global Challenges” concluded in the Azeri capital of Baku on Wednesday afternoon, with the participation of the Syrian Arab Republic represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad.

During the conference, which started yesterday, with the participation of the 120 member states, the foreign ministers agreed to accept the membership of the Russian Federation as an observer in the Non-Aligned Movement.
