Baghdad, (ST) – The number of victims of the fire that broke out yesterday inside an isolation center for Corona patients in a hospital in Dhi Qar Governorate, southern Iraq, has risen to 110.
A source at the Health Directorate of Dhi Qar Governorate told SANA that, the number of victims as of this morning reached 110 people, 77 of whom have been identified and 33 have not been identified due to the charred bodies.
A previous outcome of the fire that broke out in the Imam Hussein Hospital in the center of Dhi Qar governorate indicated the death of 58 patients and medical staff.
The Dhi Qar Health Directorate said that “the fire, the causes of which are not yet known, destroyed several caravans that were built inside the Imam Hussein Hospital, which surrounded the injured and caused the death of 58 of them, in addition to many of the injured.”
The Iraqi government declared this morning three days of mourning in solidarity with the victims of the fire.
A statement by the office of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, said that, “the Cabinet decided, after an emergency meeting, to consider the victims of the fire as martyrs and send the wounded outside Iraq to receive the necessary treatment. The statement also declared three days of mourning in the country, and conducts a high-level government investigation to find out the causes of the accident.”
