Adopting international resolution on extending the cross-border aid delivery for Syria in its current form is an achievement: Al-Mikdad
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal Al-Mikdad has stressed that adopting the UN Resolution No. 2585 on extending the cross- border aid delivery in its current form is an achievement as it contains all the aspects that western countries refuse to deal with and it reiterates that humanitarian aid delivery should be conducted from inside Syria, not only across borders.
In a statement to journalists on Saturday, Al-Mikdad said that the resolution renews the United Nations’ strong faith in the unity of the Syrian land and people, which means that the Turkish regime and the US occupation, that backs separatists in the north of Syria, won’t feel comfortable. This also means that the terrorists have been besieged as the resolution affirms the need to provide humanitarian assistance to Syria, especially from inside the country.
Al-Mikdad asserted that the resolution means that cross-border aid delivery mechanism is no longer the main way to deliver aid to Syria, rather, aid delivery from inside the country has become the main way.
He made it clear that the western countries have failed in their bid to reopen three crossings for cross-border aid deliveries and to extend this mechanism for a year. However, thanks to Syria’s friends’ efforts, those countries managed to open only one crossing, which is Bab al-Hawa border crossing, and could extend the cross-border aid for six months only.
According to the resolution, Al-Mikdad said, the Syrian state should be aware of whatever enters the country and to where food items and humanitarian supplies are going, and thus, it would be difficult for the western countries to deliver weapons to the terrorists.
He clarified that Syria’s friends at the Security Council succeeded in restricting the freedom of the delivery of Western and Turkish aid to the terrorists, pointing out that this is an essential step to close Bab al-Hawa border crossing because respecting the Syrian sovereignty is realized through respecting its borders.
Al-Mikdad pointed out that border crossings have been used by the United States, western countries and terrorism supporter to supply the armed groups and terrorists in Syria with all what they need, mainly weapons.
