European Parliament condemns Erdogan regime’s repression against Turkish opposition parties

The European Parliament has recently adopted a resolution strongly condemning the Turkish regime’s repressive acts against opposition parties in Turkey.  It stressed that such a policy affects the parties ability to exercise their rights and fulfill their democratic roles.

The parliament voted with majority in support for a draft resolution against Erdogan’s regime’s repressive policy towards opposition parties particularly the People’s Democratic Party (HDP).

The resolution described the pressure being practiced by the Turkish regime on opposition parties as “worrying”.

The resolution said that the deterioration in the performance of the political opposition indicates the tragic situation of human rights and the continuous collapse of democracy and law sovereignty in Turkey.

Turkey’s top constitutional court in June accepted an indictment seeking the closure of the HDP.

In the resolution, the European Parliament strongly condemned this indictment, saying “the case against the HDP is the culmination of a years-long crackdown which has seen thousands of party members, executives, MPs, local councilors and co-mayors tried, mainly on terrorism-related charges.”
