Lavrentiev: Russia insists on not extending the work of the “Cross-Border Aid Delivery Mechanism” in Syria
Nur-Sultan (ST): The Special Envoy of the Russian President to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, affirmed that his country insists on not extending the so-called (Cross-Border Aid Delivery Mechanism) in Syria because this mechanism has exceeded its usefulness.
In a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the sixteenth meeting of the Astana formula on Syria, which started earlier this morning in the Kazakh capital, Nur-Sultan, Lavrentiev said: We, of course, insist on closing this mechanism and not prolonging its work because it has exceeded its usefulness.
Lavrentiev added that the recent summit of Russian President Vladimir Putin and American Joe Biden in Geneva was very constructive and encouraging, and the most importantly the two parties agreed and directed experts to conduct detailed consultations on the issues currently on the agenda that concern the leaders of the two countries, including, of course, the situation in Syria, noting that in the end, we hope that the West has taken a decision to review and adjust its position on Syria for a more humane goal in the socio-economic track.
Lavrentiev indicated that Russia will discuss, during the current meeting, the Astana formula, with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General Syria Geir Pedersen, the continuation of the work of the committee to discuss the constitution, noting that all appropriate conditions have been created to continue its work.
