Sirens sound at the US Consulate in Erbil after targeting the vicinity of its international airport

Baghdad (ST): The vicinity of Erbil International Airport in northern Iraq was targeted by a booby-trapped drone last night , followed by the sound of sirens at the US Consulate in the Iraqi city.

The Iraqi Alsumaria News website quoted a security source as saying that the air service in the skies of Erbil International Airport was suspended and the roads leading to the airport were closed after the missile attack on the vicinity of the airport, without giving more details about the nature of the targeting and its results.

Later, it was reported that the US General Consulate in Erbil was in a state of alert after the attack. Media sources indicated that the target of the attack on Erbil airport was a US military base.

Yesterday, three missiles targeted the “Ain al-Assad” base, which includes American soldiers in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq, and hours later, a missile strike targeted the third Tawhid base inside the American embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
