On July 4th, a Philippine military plane carrying at least 85 people crashed in the south of the country.
“So far, 15 people have been rescued from the burning wreckage of a C-30 aircraft that crashed while trying to land on Jolo Island in Sulu province,” the AFP quoted Armed Forces Commander General CirilitoSubiana as saying.
Subiana added: “Relief teams are currently working on the site and we hope to save more people.”
Among the plane’s passengers are several military personnel who have just finished training and were being flown to the troubled island as part of a joint anti-terror task force in the region.
The Philippine army carries out operations in the south of the country, where armed groups are active, including the “Abu Sayyaf” group, which carries out kidnappings for ransom.
