Patriarch Yazigi renews his demand to lift the coercive measures imposed on Syria

Vatican, (ST) – The Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for the Roman Orthodox, John X Yazigi renewed his demand to lift the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people.

During his meeting with Pope Francis at the Apostolic Palace, Yazigi called for the lifting of the American and European coercive measures imposed on Syria, which affect the citizen’s livelihood.

Yazigi also appealed to countries, governments to intensify efforts to find out the fate of the kidnapped, Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo, Bishop Paul Yazigi, and Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo, Bishop YohannaIbrahim, who were abducted by armed terrorist organizations in the countryside of Aleppo eight years ago.

The meeting also referred to the day of prayer for Lebanon which will be held on Thursday in the Vatican. The Pope, Francis invited the heads of Christian communities in Lebanon to this prayer. 

During the meeting ,the situation in the Middle East was reviewed in all its aspects.

The Pope praised the “leading role” of the Antiochene Church, stressing that it will continue to do everything that is good for Lebanon and the region.
