Lavrov: Western countries are trying to impose a totalitarian rule on the world and replace international law with their own

Moscow (ST):  Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the relentless attempts of Western countries to replace the tools and means of international law that are currently in force with their own laws based on sanctions and interventions show their great thirst for imposing the law that suits them on the international scene.

In an article published in the newspapers (Kommersant) and (Russia in World Affairs) and reported by TASS today, Lavrov explained that the countries of the West seek to impose authoritarian rule in international affairs through the use of sanctions, illegal coercive measures and other means of pressure on sovereign countries as they work imposing a model (democracy) that suits their moods and interferes in the internal affairs of other countries, while ignoring the importance of applying democracy in international transactions.

He pointed out that these countries hate the fact that Russia stands by the countries that face the conspiracies and gambles of the West and at the same time face international terrorist attacks, as is the case in Syria, so they pretend that Moscow is pursuing a hostile policy and try to attack it and make false allegations about it.

He added that the UN Charter is based on international laws that were drawn up and ratified by all countries of the world and not by a closed group of countries, while the laws that Western powers seek to impose lack any content, and if anyone acts in a way that contradicts them and contradicts the will of the West, he is directly accused of violating the laws .

In a related context, Lavrov stressed the need to eliminate the hegemony of Western countries over the United Nations bodies and enhance the presence of countries from other regions. He said that efforts to bring more democracy to international relations and the multipolarity of the global system require reforming the UN Security Council by strengthening it with countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America and ending the extensive presence of the West in this body.

On the proposal of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron to hold a summit gathering Russian President Vladimir Putin and European Union leaders, Lavrov said that the idea was buried by the aggressive anti-Russian minority in the European Union, which lately has been determining and controlling the Union’s policies.
