“Memory of the Revolution, Mujahid Mutaib al-Jabai’ “, a book documenting the history of Syria between 1920 and 1939

Sweida (ST): “Memory of the Revolution, Mujahid Mutaib al-Jabai’, 1920-1939,”  is a book that documents essential stations in the struggle of the Syrian people against the French occupation and the sacrifices they made on the altar of freedom to achieve independence and expel the French colonizer.

The book, which was prepared and documented by the expatriate engineer, Samih Mutaib al-Jibai’,  falls in two parts, each over 550 pages, containing 35 chapters recording the events of the French colonialism and the outbreak of the Great Syrian Revolution led by Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, leading to the signing of a treaty in 1936.

The book records the  struggle of the Syrians, mentioning the names of men who participated in the Great Syrian Revolution, showing that it had an impact on the life of Syria and the Levant as a whole, relying on photographing the documents at the end of each chapter so that the reader could review them easily and smoothly with its inclusion of many poems that sang the glories of the homeland, fathers and grandfathers.

During the book signing ceremony hosted by the  Culture Palace in  Sweida, the writer and poet Farhan Al-Khatib shed light on the motives that led the expatriate Al-Jabai’ to write his book. The book includes the letters exchanged  between the writer’s father and Prince Shakib Arslan that dealt with the Great Syrian Revolution.

For his part, the writer and journalist Mo’een Al-Amatori, head of the Association of Folk Literature and Friends of Heritage, considered in a statement to news reporter that the book is one of the rare books in documentation, especially as it was based on audio and photo memoirs of the Mujahid al-Jabai’, the companion of the great Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, leader of the Great Syrian Revolution, and documents battles, facts, historical figures and poetry.

In turn, a member of the Historical Society in Syria, researcher Ibrahim Judiyah, pointed out that the researcher presented an authentic comprehensive description in which he talks about more than one pivotal event that Syria experienced, giving it an Arab and international dimension.

On the sidelines of the book’s signing, an art exhibition inspired by the book and its symbolic connotations was held, including 24 paintings by the artist Amer Al-Khatib.
