On June 26th, 1974, late President Hafez Al-Assad hoisted the Syrian flag over Quneitra province culminating the struggle of the Syrian people and the sacrifices of the Syrian army in the Liberation War of October in 1973 which led to the liberation of the city of Quneitra from the Israeli occupation and which confirmed Syria’s legitimate and firm right to restore every inch of the Syrian Golan.
47 years after the Syrian flag was hoisted over the liberated city of Quneitra, people in the occupied Syrian Golan continue to stress their steadfastness against the Israeli occupation’s arrogance, oppressive measures and void annexation decisions. They are still adherent to their homeland and their Syrian belongingness with unwavering confidence in their ability to restore every inch of the Golan soil.
This determination of the people in the Golan grows stronger while the Israeli occupation continues to implement its systematic expansionist plans through confiscating more Syrian lands, violating people’s freedoms, continuing the detention of citizens from the occupied Golan, practicing an arbitrary policy and stealing the water as well as the internal and natural resources of the Syrian Golan.
The Syrian people’s sacrifices, which led to the liberation of Quneitra from the Israeli enemy, are being revived in their current fight against the terrorist groups, which have been used as an arm for Israel to implement its schemes in Syria and the region.
The successive gains of the Syrian Army in the fight to eliminate terrorists in the Syrian provinces of Daraa and Quneitra have led to the surrender of many terrorists and to reaching a reconciliation in preparation for the army’s entry to these cities and its return to its pre-2011 points.
On July 27th, 2018, the Syrian flag was again hoisted over “Al-Tahrir Square” in Quneitra city, recalling the epic scene of hoisting the Syrian flag over the city in 1947 and confirming the Syrians’ determination to live in a dignified homeland.
The Syrian flag was also hoisted over Quneitra crossing towards the occupied Golan on October 15, 2018 after five years of closure and after the withdrawal of the United Nations Disengagement Forces (UNDOF) from the area.
At present, the Syrian army is going ahead with its war on terrorist organizations backed by the Israeli enemy, the United States and a number of Western and regional countries, mainly Turkey. This war will inevitably end with hoisting the Syrian flag over every spot of the Syrian territory thanks to the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Syrian people and army.
