Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission warns of the worsening health conditions of Palestinians in Israeli detention centers

Occupied Al-Quds, (ST) – The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission called on the international community to intervene urgently to stop the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian prisoners in its detention centers and to hold the perpetrators accountable, based on its legal and moral obligations and international conventions.

 

According to Wafa News Agency, the commission warned in a statement on Wednesday of the deteriorating health conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention. It stressed that, the occupation targets patients through a policy of deliberate medical neglect and a violation of their rights to treatment, health care and medicine.

The Commission affirmed that, the violations and continued repressive practices of the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian prisoners are a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights laws. It confirmed that, thousands of prisoners, including children and women, are still languishing in occupation prisons and suffer from severe health conditions.

The commission drew attention to the methods of physical and psychological abuse and torture pursued by the occupation forces against the prisoners, including the young prisoner Muhammad Barash from Al-Amari camp in Ramallah in the West Bank, who suffers from a difficult health condition that requires an operation to his earsBarash has been detained since 2003 and has been sentenced to life imprisonment three times.

About 5,300 Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli jails face harsh detention conditions, including about 550 prisoners who need urgent medical intervention.
