Iraqi media and political organizations condemn the US blocking of a number of websites

Baghdad, (ST) – Iraqi media and political organizations condemned on Wednesday the United States’ action of blocking a number of websites belonging to Iraqi television channels and news agencies.

The Arab Press Association affirmed in a statement to SANA reporter in Baghdad that, “the US measure is a dangerous indication of the US administration’s disregard for freedom of expression and the media, and it shows the falsehood of Washington’s claims of democracy and respect for the other opinion.”

The Iraqi Al-Nujaba Movement said in a statement that, “what America has done proves its fear of the media, that  our voice has begun to reach the whole world via the Internet and satellites, exposing lies, deception and misleading the American regime.”

The movement called for a boycott of US companies providing all domains of the transfer of servers. It called for transferring the affected servers and domains in Iraq to the domain of the State of Iraq and its services, or to domains subject to fair laws from allied countries.

The US authorities had earlier suspended Iranian, Yemeni and Iraqi news sites and prevented them from broadcasting on the Internet, in a step that proves the falsehood of US allegations of respecting freedom of expression and media. USconfirms the continuation of double standards to serve the interests and dominance of the United States in the region and the world.
