Syrian-Iraqi discussions in the transport sector and mechanisms for developing trade exchange

On June 20th, the Minister of Transport, Eng. Zuhair Khuzaym, discussed with the Iraqi Minister of Industry Manhal Aziz Al-Khabbaz, ways to enhance bilateral relations in the transport sector and mechanisms for developing trade exchange between the two countries.

During a meeting of the two sides at the Ministry of Transport in Damascus, the participants discussed mechanisms of mutual coordination, the situation of the joint Syrian-Iraqi company, the importance of facilitating the work of drivers and trucks and the transportation of goods between the two countries.

Minister Khuzaym reviewed the most important developments that have been accomplished after the systematic sabotage caused by terrorist organizations to the transport sector, especially railways, road networks and airports.

 

Minister Khuzaym pointed to the need to intensify cooperation and joint communication to promote cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

In turn, the Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh spoke about the necessity of developing relations between the two countries in the field of industry, transport and trade exchange, especially in the next stage, as it requires an additional effort for the interest of both countries.

The Iraqi Minister of Industry confirmed that the delegation’s visit to Syria does not focus on issues related to industry only, but its main and major goal is to build bridges and economic ties between the two countries.

The Iraqi Minister of Industry stressed the need to expand cooperation in various fields, especially the transport sectors.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister of Transport Ammar Kamal El-Din, Chargé d’Affairs at the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus Yassin Sharif Al-Hujaimi and a number of directors of the Ministry of Transport directorates.
