Al-Assad Library holds an exhibition for 3000 old Syrian, Arab and foreign periodicals from its valuable archive

The Al-Assad National Library in Damascus is currently holding an exhibition for the old periodicals of Syrian, Arab and foreign newspapers and magazines which have been archived carefully in the library and which have documented important historical periods since the 19th century until the present time.

The exhibition showcases excerpts from 1993 Arab magazines, 1145 foreign magazines, 302 Arab newspaper and 28 foreign newspapers. 

The event aims at shedding light on the role of newspapers and magazines in preserving the Syrian cultural heritage and at presenting this cultural treasure to the students and researchers to enrich their knowledge and scientific research.

A number of specialized magazines, published in Syria and abroad including in Brazil and Argentine and covering the fields of science, economy, literature, public knowledge, law, sports, culture, media, education and military sciences, are also among the exhibits.

 

In a statement to SANA, Director General of the Al-Assad Library Iyad Murshid said that the exhibition focuses on the importance of periodicals in preserving national cultural heritage and provides an opportunity to introduce to the public some of the precious old contents of the library that maintained the history of Syria and the region and that have presented valuable information about the cultural, political, social, industrial and agricultural life in Syria.
