Baharvand asserts the importance of UN humanitarian assistance regardless of political considerations
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohsen Baharvand emphasized the importance of UN humanitarian assistance in conflict zones, particularly in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, regardless of political considerations and pressures.
Baharvand met and held talks with the new United Nations Special Envoy on Yemen Martin Griffiths on Tuesday.
Extending congratulations to Griffiths’ new position, he emphasized the importance of UN humanitarian assistance in conflict zones, particularly in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, regardless of political concerns and pressures.
Despite the outrageous sanctions, Iran has always been ready to help the United Nations hasten humanitarian assistance to people in need in conflict zones, he said.
He added that unfortunately, unilateral US sanctions have not only hindered humanitarian trade, such as the purchase of food and medicine, but also affected the organization’s humanitarian assistance to people in need in conflict zones, and the new UN Special Envoy on Yemen should put this issue on the agenda at the beginning of accepting his new responsibility.
The two sides exchanged views on regional issues, including Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, as well as the role of the United Nations in the issues like humanitarian and relief.
