During the International Labor Conference, Minister Abdullah: Supporting Syria’s just position by calling for the lifting of the unilateral coercive measures

Damascus (ST): With the participation of Syria, the labor ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement countries held their meeting today, which is included on the agenda of the 109th session of the International Labor Conference, which is organized annually by the International Labor Organization and is held this year virtually in Geneva.

In her speech, the head of the Syrian delegation, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Salwa Abdullah underlined the importance for the Organization to take clear and explicit decisions denouncing and condemning the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Arab Golan, Palestine and other occupied Arab territories, and the flagrant violations it is committing against civilians, employers and workers in the occupied Syrian Golan.

Minister Abdullah said that we are looking forward to a strong supportive stance for Syria in its war against terrorism, adding that the global war that was launched against Syria is a crime that affected all aspects of life and also the Syrian citizen in all his basics of living and led to the loss of thousands of workers their job opportunities and sources of livelihood.

Minister Abdullah called on the participating ministers and heads of delegations to support Syria’s just position by calling for the lifting of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on it, which exacerbated the humanitarian, social and economic impact on Syrians and restricted their ability to secure their living needs, especially food and medicine.

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs called for adopting a recommendation concerning fighting Covid-19 epidemic and alleviating its repercussions on development in the economic, social, health and services sectors in most countries of the world, pointing out that this epidemic has stopped work in small and big companies and factories and led millions of people to lose their jobs.

She affirmed the need to adopt a unified stance as well as transparent programs and policies as there is an urgent need for a world where equality, justice and descent work are available to all in accordance with the principles of the International Labor Organization.

The activities of the first phase of the 109 session of the International Labor Conference kicked off virtually on Friday in Geneva. The meetings of this session will last until June 19th.
