Haddad: Success of presidential elections proves the Syrian people’s determination to defeat terrorism

Syria’s Ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad declared on Tuesday that the success of presidential elections in Syria proves the Syrian people’s determination to defeat terrorism and liberate their country from occupation.

“As you saw, millions of Syrians have participated in the elections as an expression of their commitment to national unity, policy and their president Bashar al-Assad who has remained steadfast against the 10-year terrorist war,” the Syrian Ambassador said at a press conference in Moscow upon an invitation by Rossiya Segodnya news agency.

He added that the elections were followed up on by parliamentary delegations from many countries including Russia.

The ambassador asserted that banning Syrian citizens from voting in the presidential elections in Germany and Turkey violates international law and Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Haddad in addition clarified that it is surprising that the Western countries tightened their coercive measures being imposed on Syria after the major victory of President Al-Assad in the elections.
