Eight young artists show new ideas in “Nukl” exhibition
A Collective Exhibition for Sketch and Small Painting entitled “ Nukl” is currently being held in the Kozah Gallery of Fine Arts in Damascus and will last till the 5th of June 2021.
120 small paintings for eight young artists were displayed at the exhibition, showing themes that reflect their different experiences and inner ideas
The artists are :Amr Amer, Hussam Sargaya, Manar Al-Shouha, Muhannad Al-Beik, Samar Dawood, Shadi Al-Melhem, Suleiman Al-Qoussi, Tharwat Maatouk.
Shadi Al-Melhem, draws the teeth as the a main theme in his paintings.
He told Syria Times : “I chose the teeth as a symbol of time . The tooth lasts a long time after death and it takes a long period of time to decompose… I chose this idea to express time. I draw the tooth not in a realistic way but in abstract expressionism rather to use it as a symbol.”.
“As for the colors, I use earthen colors to express my idea, and I left the interpretation of the paintings to the viewer,” he added.
Muhannad Al-Beik is another participant who shows 14 small paintings drawn in charcoal . He said: “The idea of the exhibition was to show small, simple and varied works, the title “ Nukl” means diversity, so that the viewer sees various styles of paintings” .
“I graduated from the Department of Sculpture two years ago, and I made sculptures which are a mixture between humans and animals that belong to the exotic school,” Al-Beik clarified.
He went on to say: “Here in the exhibition I show small paintings where the viewer interprets the painting as he sees and feels.”
“Paintings depict nature ,forest animals that look like x-rays where the viewer can see the interior things . The idea is to present unrealistic paintings that are collections of imagination. I want to display something new using simplicity forms,” he concluded.
For her part, Tharwat Maatouk, displays 9 small paintings to express time , travel and obsessions.
In her paintings she depends on the collage technique using the papers of dictionaries and newspapers to express her ideas and colors that belong to expressionism style.
