Egypt rejects the statements of the Ethiopian Prime Minister about the building of new dams on the Nile River

On May 31st, Egypt confirmed that the statements of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed about building new dams in his country on the Nile River contradict the rules of international law.

 

“The statements of the Ethiopian Prime Minister are nothing but a continuation of the regrettable Ethiopian approach that abuses the rules of international law that regulate the use of international rivers,” the Egyptian Al-Ahram Gate website quoted Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, a spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as saying in a statement:

Hafez added: “This statement reveals once again Ethiopia’s bad faith and its dealings with the Nile River and other international rivers that it shares with neighboring countries.”

On May 8th, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed that his country would not accept any  infringment on its water rights in the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
