Today, Syrians began to vote with the first moments of the opening of ballot boxes in various governorates and polling stations, just as Syrians abroad who recently exercised their right to vote.
Some might say that these elections are political and directed towards a specific person. This is true because our daily life experience that we lived with the current president, Dr. Bashar Al-Assad, proved that he is more qualified than anyone else to assume the presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic. Moreover, whoever elects Al-Assad; he freely expresses his personal opinion. There are also those who will elect the opposition candidates as well, convinced that the change is beneficial. Everyone is free to choose who he wants and who he thinks is the best fit for this position.
At a polling center in the Homs governorate, we met with the supervisors of the polling process and were acquainted with the procedures that are being taken, including the secrecy of the ballot, facilitating the entry of voters into centers, and the procedures that provide the voter’s freedom of choice.
Head of a polling center in the western countryside of Homs, Al-Zahera sub-district, Mr. Ali Saleh said, “The center has witnessed a large turnout of people since the early morning, who came to fulfill their national duty, expressing their high national belonging and great love for their homeland”.
Mr. Meshaal Meshaal said, “The Syrian presidential elections are a high-level national and constitutional duty for the Syrian people at home and abroad.
The current elections constitute a pivotal stage in the history of Syria after the global war waged by more than eighty countries against it. Our people resisted ferociously during the war and are still resilient despite the harsh and unfair economic war they are going through.
The present-day presidential election is a challenge to the West, to all those who plot against Syrian sovereignty, and to all those who doubt it. The success of this presidential election is considered a victory against all the forces that have conspired against our beloved country.”
Abu Sharif, the mayor of the village of Ainata in the Wadi al-Nasara region said, “I came to do my national duty and exercise my right to elect the president and decide my country’s future.
We are here today to say that we are ready to sacrifice our blood and our children for the sake of President Bashar Al-Assad, this great man who defended his people valiantly, who promised us victory and fulfilled his promise.”
Luay Rabie, a teacher said, “The presidential elections are a very important stage in Syria’s development process and a great challenge to all the aggressive attempts to foil these elections. We, as teachers, are effective partners in the reconstruction process of Syria.”
