Romanian Academic: Holding presidential elections in Syria is the Syrians’ national duty and sovereign right
Prof. Ion Deaconescu, Head of the International Academy “Mihai Eminescu” în România, and head of the “Work for Syria” group has affirmed that the Syrians’ participation in the presidential elections is the sovereign right of the Syrian people, and it is a national, moral and legal duty.
“Syria has suffered for a long time as a result of the heinous terrorist war which claimed the lives of a lot of Syrians and destroyed many areas in the country,” Deaconescu said in a video obtained by SANA.
He pointed out that the priority of the elected president will be reconstructing what the terrorist war has destroyed.
He made it clear that Syria’s strategic position, deep-rooted history, ancient civilization, culture and high human values made it a major attraction to other peoples of the world, noting the religious and historical importance of Damascus as the oldest inhabited capital in history.
