A delegation of representatives of the Russian legislative bodies arrives in Damascus to keep pace with the presidential elections
Damascus, (ST) – A delegation from the Russian Federation arrived in Damascus, including members from the various Russian legislative bodies, represented by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly, the State Duma and the Social Chamber of the Russian Federation, to keep up with the presidential elections process and to see its course, in response to an invitation from the People’s Assembly.
In an interview with SANA, a member of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Sergey Muradov, Head of the Russian-Syrian Friendship Committee in the Council, said that, we came to Damascus because we consider that, holding the elections on time is a victory and as a result of the assistance provided by our country to preserve the unity of Syria. We came to witness the mechanisms of elections ourselves, and its application of the principles of democracy in accordance with international standards.
Muradov said that, the delegation touched during its tour today the electoral preparations that are in conformity with democratic principles, indicating that the preparations are completely free “without pressure.”
A member of the State Duma, the coordinator of the Russian parliamentary group for relations with the People’s Assembly, Dmitry Sablin, affirmed that, he accompanied the electoral processes in many countries from east to west, and he is confident that the elections in Syria will be real and democratic despite the difficulties and problems. As for the Syrians it is a choice of who will lead them tomorrow, and it is a choice between death and life.
A member of the Social Chamber of the Russian Federation, Maxim Grigoriev said that, among the tasks of the association that he represents is to keep up with the elections in Russia and follow them up, and he came to Damascus with the aim of keeping up with the elections and learning about the mechanisms of its conduct. He stressed that, his country’s refuses to allow countries such as Germany and Turkey to prevent Syrians abroad from participating in the elections and to decide the future of their country, freely and democratically, in accordance with the constitutional rules and laws followed by them, and without outside interference.
