Two parliamentary delegations from Iraq and Iran arrive in Damascus to accompany the presidential elections
Damascus (ST): Parliamentary delegations from brotherly and friendly countries began arriving in Syria to keep abreast with the presidential election process and to be acquainted with its course at the invitation of the People’s Assembly.
A delegation from the Iraqi Republic arrived this morning, headed by a member of the Iraqi Parliament, Kata’e Al-Rikabi, which includes a number of representatives and specialists in electoral affairs, with the aim of keeping pace with the presidential election process.
In a statement, Al-Rikabi confirmed that the delegation is visiting Syria upon an invitation from Parliament Speaker Hammoudeh Sabbagh to participate in following up and accompanying the presidential elections scheduled for next Wednesday.
Al-Rikabi indicated that the members of the delegation saw during their tour in Damascus today the great interest of the Syrians in the elections and their eagerness to participate in it, indicating that this is evidence of the great ability of the Syrians to absorb the size of what they have gone through during the ten years of the treacherous war that befell them.
Another delegation from the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly arrived this afternoon, headed by Assembly member Zahra Lahian, Chairman of the Human Rights Affairs at the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
In a similar statement, the head of the Iranian parliamentary delegation indicated that the elections in Syria represent a symbol of democracy and express the right of the Syrian people to determine their future, indicating that the delegation of her country will participate in accompanying these elections.
Al-Lahian expressed her happiness that the Syrians will participate in the elections showing that they live in a state of stability after years of difficult conditions that they went through as a result of the terrorist war that was launched against their country. reaffirmed the Iranian people’s determination to continue to support the Syrian people in the stage of reconstruction.
