The Syrian embassy in the Chilean Capital Santiago witnessed active participation in the Syrian presidential elections held on May 20th, 2021 within an atmosphere of enthusiasm and hope that these elections will be a major step forward towards the reconstruction of Syria.

Voters came from several areas in Santiago and other Chilean provinces to do their national duty in electing their president and deciding the future of their country.

After voting, a number of Syrian expatriates said that taking part in the elections is a duty and it indicates Syria’s institutional strength and reflects the Syrians will to rebuild the country.

The voters affirmed that the elections reaffirm Syria’s independent decision and its confrontation of the political and economic pressure practiced on it by some western countries.

They reiterated that the Syrians alone are entitled to decide the future of their country and by voting in these elections they confirm their adherence to their motherland.

In a statement to Syria Times, the Syrian Charge de Affairs in Santiago, Ms. Fayzeh Ahmad, described May 20th , 2021 as a great national Syrian day, adding that members of the Syrian community came eagerly to the embassy, most of them carrying the Syrian flag, to cast their votes in Syria’s Presidential elections and to confirm their national belongingness.

“Some voters refused to use the ballot booths to vote privately saying we came to elect our President, Bashar Al-Assad, not someone else, because he is the one who will lead Syria to the shore of safety”, the Syrian diplomat said.

She pointed out that elections were conducted smoothly and quietly in an atmosphere of cooperation, thanking the Chilean government for the facilitations it provided to the Syrian citizens to take part in the electoral process.
