Iran’s General Consulate in Aleppo was opened on Saturday within the framework of enhancing the Syrian-Iranian ties in different domains.
In an online statement, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad said that opening the consulate reflects the two country’s keenness on deepening bilateral relations and economic cooperation and indicates the economic development Aleppo has witnessed since its liberation in terms of reconstructing what terrorism has destroyed.
On his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, said in a statement via internet that opening the consulate indicates Iran’s will to have an effective participation in Syria reconstruction process.
“Opening the consulate in Aleppo proves our great interest in Aleppo’s history and culture and our keenness to boost cooperation between Iran and Syria,” Zarif added.
Al-Mikdad and Zarif hailed the wide participation of the Syrians abroad in the Presidential elections held in the Syrian embassies worldwide on May 20 and condemned the attacks that targeted Syrian voters in Lebanon.
The Iranian Ambassador to Syria, Mahdi Sabhani described opening the Iranian General Consulate in Aleppo as a turning point in the Iranian-Syrian relations and a further evidence proving mutual will to consolidate economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.
