Pushkov: Presidential elections in Syria perpetuate the country’s military victory over terrorism

Chairman of the Political and Media Committee at the Russian State Duma Alexei Pushkov has affirmed that the forthcoming presidential elections in Syria are very necessary and important as they confirm to the entire world  the legitimacy of the Syrian state and perpetuate the military successes achieved against the terrorist groups  countrywide.

In a statement to SANA correspondent in Moscow, Pushkov said that the refusal of some western states to allow conducting the Syrian presidential elections was instigated by their hatred to Syria and the Syrian people, because the “Syrian decision has always been a national independent decision and will continue to be like this.” He reiterated that the Syrian people alone have the right to choose their leadership.

“The West’s claims about the illegality of these elections are nothing but void and baseless pretexts,” he stressed, pointing out that western countries have funded and armed ISIS and other terrorist organizations and impeded the restoration of the areas under the control of the terrorists to the Syrian state’s sovereignty.

Pushkov questioned the illegality of the presence of the American and Turkish forces in Syria, particularly as the Syrian government hasn’t invited any of them to enter Syria, pointing out that these forces are present in oil and grain-rich Syrian areas to loot Syria’s wealth and weaken the state.

He asserted that the repeated acts of stealing and smuggling Syria’s oil by United States and its allies are nothing but a desperate attempt to hinder Syria’s development and impede its complete victory.

The senior Russian MP went on to say that Washington and its allies have lost their battle in Syria following the defeat of their terrorist agents despite all forms of support provided to the terrorist groups in the country.

“Syria has entered the stage of enhancing its victory over terrorism and this gives it full political legitimacy to hold presidential elections,” Pushkov clarified.
