Damascus (ST): Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif arrived in Damascus this morning to hold talks with senior state officials about developments in the region and bilateral relations, where he was received at Damascus International Airport by Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad and a number of Foreign Ministry officials.
In an arrival statement to reporters, the Iranian Foreign Minister affirmed his happiness at being in Syria again and meeting with the Syrian brothers, indicating that the current circumstances are very special circumstances and it was planned to pay a visit to Syria on the eve of the elections there to discuss this important event with Syrian friends. Unfortunately, the Iranian Foreign Minister added, that the criminal acts of the Zionist entity that have escalated since International Jerusalem Day and the unprecedented events that took place in Al-Aqsa Mosque and the occupied territories and the bombing of Gaza have created rapidly deteriorating conditions in the region, and Syria, as one of the leading countries in the axis of resistance, has a very important role in this field.
He added that the talks would include the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the Syrian government and people, whether on the path of reconstruction or in combating terrorism, in addition to the current situation in occupied Palestine.
For his part, Al-Miqdad affirmed that this visit is important and comes at a critical time that we are going through in both countries and the region where the aggressive Western, American and Israeli policies escalate and the Palestinian people are now suffering as a result of the bloody practices of the Israeli entity.
Minister Al-Miqdad added that the situation is deteriorating in the context of the repeated targeting of this region by Western powers, noting that targeting of Syria and the Islamic Republic of Iran was due to the positions of these two countries on the Palestinian issue and the support provided to the Palestinian people’s struggle for liberation and establishing an independent state.
Al-Miqdad pointed out that the coming hours will be full of many meetings, through which we hope to discuss the recent developments in both countries. On the other hand, there are issues and developments, which we will deal with in detail so that the ex isting coordination between our two countries continues.
