Syrian artists and musicians commemorate with the Russian people the seventy-sixth anniversary of the victory over Nazism, during a central ceremony hosted by the Opera Theater at Al-Assad House for Culture and Arts, in the presence of official figures, intellectuals, and a number of members of the Russian community in Syria.
The celebration was held in cooperation between the Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Russia, and the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus. The celebration was an opportunity to showcase the high capabilities of graduates and students of the Syrian academic institutions to evoke the Russian singing and music that has been celebrating for decades the most prominent event in the twentieth century.
At the beginning of the celebration, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Ayman Sousan delivered a speech in which he expressed the happiness of the Syrians for the participation with Russian friends in celebrating their victory, which put an end to the Nazi and fascist ideology based on domination and colonial expansion. He stressed that what Syria is exposed to in terms of terrorist war is the result of plans aimed at domination and arrogance to impose tutelage on the Syrians.
Susan underlined the importance of the support provided by the Russian Federation to Syria in its war on terrorism, which will have the effect of establishing a world order that rejects hegemony and achieves prosperity for all.
Chargé d’Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Damascus Eldar Qurbanov expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Ministries of Culture and Presidency of the Republic for their efforts in organizing the ceremony, recalling the sacrifices made by the Russian people in their war against Nazism during World War II, which was the bloodiest and fierce war in human history.
Kurbanov said: “International terrorism over ten years has caused havoc to the friendly people in Syria. Therefore, the Russian Federation, in implementation of its sacred duty, helped the Syrian people and as a result of joint efforts, the Syrian land returned to Syrian sovereignty.”
Information Minister Imad Sarah said in a statement to reporters that this Syrian performed concert represents greetings from the Syrian people to the ceremony that Russian friends held on the anniversary of the Independence Day last April.
Minister Sarah highlighted the deeply rooted and renewed relations between the two countries.
Dr. Labana Mashouh, Minister of Culture, stressed the need to establish a culture of steadfastness, sacrifice and martyrdom in all forums to shed light on the sacrifices of the army and people of the two countries.
Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates considered that our celebration today with Russian friends on this occasion represents an acknowledgment of the great role played by the Soviet Union and army in realizing victory over the alliance of Nazism, fascism and Japanese militarism. He pointed out that the fight against terrorism was a mutual issue between Syria and Russia.
