The Arab International Forum for Lifting the Sanctions Imposed on Syria held an online meeting on Friday in Beirut during which it launched the Arab and International Commission for lifting the siege imposed on Syria and opened the door for all to join it.
300 Arab and foreign personalities from different parts of the world took part in the forum which was organized by the International Arab Center for Communication and Solidarity in Beirut and the Arab National Conference. The foreign participants represented the United States, Canada, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Australia, India, South Africa, the United Kingdom, France, Northern Ireland, Greece, Mexico, Argentina, the Republic of Ireland, Hungary and Poland. The 300 members of this forum agreed to be the founding members of the Arab and International Commission for lifting the siege imposed on Syria.
The participants affirmed their rejection of the unjust western blockade imposed on Syria, which violates the simplest rules of international law and is considered as a kind of collective punishment for the Syrian people and a war against humanity, stressing that those behind this crime should be brought to trial at the International Criminal Court.
The forum called on the participants- each in his/her country to- seek forming national committees to lift the siege imposed on the Syrian people in implementation of the provisions of the program that was approved in the forum and that will be included in the final statement of the forum during its session early next week.
“Speaking out against the illegal western sanctions which violate the most basic human rights in Syria is a brave stance by some diplomats, politicians as well as unionist and party officials from several parts of the world,” said Lebanese Former Minister Bishara Mirhej, one of the founders of the Arab National Conference and the International Arab Center for Communication and Solidarity.
He pointed out that the Syrian people are now feeling stronger as they see outstanding personalities defending them, their interests and aspirations.
“Syria won’t give up its original heritage and key role in the region and it will continue to be a shield defending Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian cause,” he asserted.
Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, the Presidential Political and Media Advisor, said that subjugating Syria has been the goal of the western Zionist forces, therefore they have been devoting a huge amount of money from oil revenues and mobilizing weapons and terrorists to achieve this goal. However, once these forces realized the impossibility of achieving this goal due to the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Syrian people, they shifted their focus from the military war to the economic war represented in imposing illegal unilateral coercive measures as a form of collective punishment against the Syrian people.
Dr. Shaaban added that the Syrian issue is extremely important as it highlights the need for a new type of world order, pointing out that the arrogant sanctions imposed by the United States against both Russia and China, in addition to the US blatant interference in the Chinese internal affairs through the so-called Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang issue are hastening the birth of this new type of world order.
“I think that electing Joe Biden as President of the United States aims of reviving the transatlantic relations in the face of both Russia and China, but these efforts will not achieve the hoped-for results, due to many reasons, mainly because China is a rising economic, technological and moral power whose alliance with Russia and other countries will undoubtedly establish a multi-polar system,” Dr. Shaaban emphasized.
