The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union condemns Turkish occupation’s crime of cutting water supplies to citizens in Hasakah

The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) has condemned the Turkish occupations aggressive practices, particularly the crime of cutting off drinking water supplies to the citizens in Hasakah city  and its vicinity, urging the international community and concerned organizations to act urgently as to stop the occupation authorities’ violations and help resume water supplies.

In a statement on Thursday, the Union said that the Turkish occupation’s aggressive acts come amid an urgent need for water, as this area is witnessing a big increase in temperature in the month of Ramadan and an exacerbated health situation caused by the outbreak of the Coronavirus. It added that these practices have catastrophic consequences on citizens, including depriving them of drinking water, especially women, children and the elderly, calling on Turkey not to use innocent civilians in political and military conflicts.

The Union stressed that the pumping of  water supplies should immediately be resumed to Hasakah’s neighborhoods in order to avoid a humanitarian disaster that will extend beyond the Syrian borders and will have catastrophic impacts on the entire region.

 The AIPU voiced its support for the efforts being exerted with the aim of reaching a political solution that attains security and stability in Syria, restores Syria’s basic role as a pillar of common Arab action and achieves stability in the Middle East.
