Box containing written support granted by MPs to presidential candidates reaches Supreme Constitutional Court
The box containing written support granted by members of the People’s Assembly to the candidates for the post of President of the Republic had reached the Supreme Constitutional Court.
The President of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Muhammad Jihad Al-Lahham, said in a statement to reporters that after receiving the box from the People’s Assembly, that the court will study all presidential nominations and decide on them within the legal period of five days.
Al-Lahham added that after the completion of the study of applications in accordance with the constitutional and legal conditions, the court will announce the names of the candidates whose nominations have been successful .
Al-Lahham added that the General Authority of the Supreme Constitutional Court has been conducting a permanent session since the door to presidential nominations was opened on the 19th of April until today. It will meet and study all nominee applications in addition to the written support of the members of the People’s Assembly that each candidate obtained and will decide the accepted ones within a legal period of five days.
The court will also examine and legally study the files of applications and issue the names of the candidates whose nominations are accepted by the court and who fulfilled the constitutional and legal conditions stipulated in the constitution, the law of the Supreme Constitutional Court and the general election law and its amendments and executive instructions, Al-Lahham added.
Accepting the presidential nominations application stopped on Wednesday as the number of candidates reached 51, including 7 women.
