Syria: UNSC’s failure to fulfill its duty encourages Israel to continue its attacks on Syria

NEW YORK, ( ST)_ Syria has reiterated that the occupied Golan is part and parcel of Syria and it will be restored by the use of all means granted by the International law.

It called on UN Security Council to implement the UN resolution No 497 for the year 1981 and to force the Israeli occupation to stop its settlement plans and suppressive measures against the Syrian people in the Golan as well as to withdraw from the Golan to the line 4 June 1967.

Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Bassam Sabbagh said in a statement he presented to the UNSC on the situation in the Middle East that the continuity of the Israeli occupation of Arab lands for more than 5 decades reflects the failure of the UN to fulfill its duty which is related to protect international peace and security.

Sabbagh pointed out that some permanent member states of the UN, mainly the US, support and protect the Israeli occupation and cover all Israeli’s systematic criminal acts in occupied Arab lands.

He added that Syria regrets the UN General Secretariat’s ignorance of Israeli violations and practices in the occupied Golan.

“Syria supports the Palestinian people’s right of self-determination and the establishment of the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital,” Sabbagh asserted, calling for granting Palestine the membership in the UN.
