The American ambassador to Moscow leaves for his country
On April 22nd, the US Embassy in Moscow announced that Ambassador John Sullivan will leave Russia for his country.
The Russian Foreign Ministry advised Sullivan to go to the United States to consult with his administration after the escalation of tension between the two countries against the backdrop of hostile measures taken by Washington against Moscow.
“We confirm that Ambassador Sullivan is on his way to Washington,” Sputnik news agency quoted US embassy spokeswoman Rebecca Ross as saying.
The embassy said earlier that Sullivan would travel to the United States this week but would return to Moscow in the coming weeks.
On April 21st, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared 10 employees of the US embassy in Moscow “ persona non grata” and asked them to leave the country by May 21.
The US administration has recently imposed broad sanctions on Russia, including measures targeting 32 individuals and entities, and the application of a ban on purchasing Russian government bonds, starting from June 14, in addition to the expulsion of 10 Russian diplomats from the United States.
