Abu Zakaria Al-Faraa was one of the most important scholars of grammar and language in the first Abbasid era and is one of the leading scholars of Arabic throughout the ages. Because of his intense knowledge of grammar and the arts of literature, it was said that the language would not have been without the presence of Al-Fara’a.
In commemoration of the memory of this venerable scientist, the Syrian General Authority for the Book published the book (Abu Zakaria Al-Fara’a and the Horizons of Linguistic Research) by the critic Dr. Muwaffaq Al-Sarraj. Publishing the book comes within the series of reviving the Arab heritage.
The book, which is published electronically, focuses on one of Al-Far’a most important books, (The Meanings of the Qur’an), which was considered one of the valuable and necessary references for researchers of Qur’an sciences because of its accurate explanation of the meanings, linguistic benefits and the difference between dialects. Al-Sarraj adopted in his book a number of sources, translations and specialized grammatical and linguistic studies.
The abundance of references and the use of the standard descriptive, analytical and methodological approach in the study of Al-Fara’a book (The Meanings of the Qur’an) made this book an expanded scientific research that sheds light on this linguistic world and the science of interpretation of the Qur’an.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Mowaffaq Al-Sarraj was born in Hama in 1955. He has a PhD in Arabic Language and Literature. He worked as head of the cultural department in Al-Fida newspaper and worked as professor at Syrian and Libyan universities. He has published several books.
