Russian diplomat: Only the Syrian people have the right to decide their own future

Moscow (ST):  Deputy Chairman of the Russian Diplomats Association, Ambassador Andrei Baklanov, has affirmed that the Syrian people will succeed in holding their next presidential elections and they alone have the right to determine the fate and future of their country.

In a statement, Baklanov said: “The Syrian people will succeed in conducting fair and democratic elections just as the previous presidential elections, which Russian observers have confirmed were fair and transparent.” He noted that this people is a member of the United Nations and has the full right to decide the fate of its country  and to elect its leadership, president and parliamentarians in the manner he deems appropriate.

 

Baklanov explained that Syria is a country with a long history and a deeply rooted  civilization and is much older than those countries, including the United States of America, which is trying to direct advice to the Syrian people without realizing that this people over the centuries have experienced hundreds of invaders, occupiers, and counselors who were all destined towards demise, and Syria and its people remained free, independent and proud.

Baklanov stressed the need for vigilance and caution against the media war directed by the West and its agents in the region against Syria and its elections.
