The presidential election is a sovereign right of the Syrian people, says Dolgov

Moscow, (ST) The senior researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Russian Institute of Orientalism, Boris Dolgov, affirmed that the presidential election in Syria is the sovereign right of the Syrian people.

Dolgov said in an interview with SANA in Moscow on Monday that “the upcoming presidential elections in Syria are an important event in the political life of Syria and primarily indicate that the Syrian Arab Republic is living according to its laws and provisions of its constitution in effect, which comply with all international and true democratic standards.”

Dolgov said that, setting the date for the presidential elections in Syria is an affirmation of the sovereignty of the Syrian state, whose army has won  in the terrorist war and defeated international terrorism with the help and support of Syria’s allies, Russia, Iran, and other friendly states.

The Russian researcher pointed out that most of the Syrian lands have become safe thanks to the victories of the Syrian army and said, “now is the time to implement the presidential elections through which the Syrian people express their will by choosing their leader who will continue to move forward on the path to fighting terrorism and start in the process of reconstructing what the unjust war on Syria destroyed”.

Dolgov stressed that certain foreign powers are still continuing their attempts to interfere in Syria’s internal affairs and are practicing an aggressive policy by supporting terrorist organizations and imposing unilateral coercive measures against it. He said that, the Syrian people will prove through their widespread participation in the presidential elections their determination to confront all these attempts and to fail all plans of the Western powers aiming to destabilize the security and stability of Syria and impose its will on it.
