Syria, Belarus discuss bilateral relations in the light of common challenges

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad discussed on Tuesday with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Mackie the bilateral relations between the two countries in light of the common challenges facing them and the need to exert further efforts to develop these relations to the level that meets the Syrian and Belarusian peoples’ aspirations.

“Syria stands by Belarusian leadership, government and people and supports measures that have been adopted by President Alexander Lukashenko to confront the attempts of foreign intervention in its internal affairs of Belarus,” Al-Miqdad  said at a telephone call with Mackie.

He condemned unilateral coercive measures targeting Belarus, Syria and other countries, noting that these measures have become a firm policy for some western countries to undermine the will of the people and impose their agendas on them.

“Syria thanks Belarus for the assistance it offered to the Syrian people,” Al-Miqdad added.

For his part, Mackie stressed his country’s firm commitment to stand by Syria under the leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad in the face of the terrorist war imposed on the country and the attempts of external intervention in its internal affairs.

He affirmed Belarus’s commitment to respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

He called for lifting coercive economic measures being imposed on the Syrian people, referring to the importance of boosting cooperation between the two sides at international meetings to confront Western attacks aimed at undermining their sovereignty.

The Minister expressed his country’s deep appreciation for Syria’s support to Belarus against foreign intervention attempts.

The two sides agreed on going ahead with communications and supporting the efforts of the Syrian and Belarusian governments to follow up the implementation of agreements singed by the two countries and to  achieve  success at the work of the Syrian-Belarusian economic committee that will hold meetings soon.
