Putin reviews with Merkel and Macron the political solution in Syria and Libya

Moscow (ST): Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron during a phone call the political situations and solutions in Syria and Libya, the preservation of the Iranian nuclear agreement, and pressing international issues.

In a statement issued by the Kremlin, Putin indicated that the situation in Syria is heading towards stability, referring to the need to move forward with a political solution and to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.

The statement indicated that the three officials affirmed their support for preserving the nuclear agreement with Iran and coordinating steps in this regard, and expressed their hope that the political process in Libya would be activated with the participation of all the main political forces.

On relations between Russia and the European Union, the statement stressed the Russian side’s readiness to restore “normal and non-politicized” cooperation if the other party showed interest in this, pointing out that special emphasis was placed on uniting efforts for combating the common threat represented by the Corona virus pandemic.
