Baghdad (ST): The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service has revealed that 312 air strikes had been carried out as part of an operation targeting terrorist organizations in the Makhmour Mountains, south of Nineveh governorate to the north of the country.
The spokesman for the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service Sabah Al-Numan said in a statement to news correspondent in Baghdad that the Operation “Enthusiastic Lion” comes as part of the preemptive operations carried out against the remnants of “ISIS” to prevent them from carrying out terrorist crimes, noting that during the operation the terrorists were trapped inside their dens with air support and the operation resulted in the complete destruction of those dens.
Al-Numan explained that the preparation for the operation depended on gathering intelligence information about the whereabouts of terrorists in the area indicating that during the first quarter of this year, more than 77 terrorists were arrested and many of the organization’s leaders were killed.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi police forces arrested five ISIS terrorists in Nineveh governorate. Alsumaria News quoted a statement of the provincial police command as saying that “the police forces, in cooperation with the citizens, managed to arrest five ISIS terrorists in the districts of Al-Tahrir, Al-Arbajiya and Al-Zahraa on the left side of the city of Mosul.
