Syria, ICRC discuss enhancing cooperation in humanitarian field

DAMASCUS, (ST)_Means of boosting cooperation and coordination between Syria the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the role the committee in the Israeli- occupied Syrian Golan were the main topics that were tackled on Tuesday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad and the ICRC’s President Peter Maurer.  
 
According to the Syrian News Agency ( SANA), Al-Miqdad said that the Syrian government highly appreciates the efforts being exerted by the ICRC in humanitarian field, including humanitarian aid in various sectors such as health and education. 
 
The Minister also referred to the importance of the international organizations’ adherence to their humanitarian responsibilities and the humanitarian International law to ease the suffering of the Syrian people caused by Western countries’ systematic aggressive attack on them. 
He reiterated that Syria condemns the unilateral coercive sanctions being imposed by the US and its European allies on Syria and other countries, not to mention the continuity of supporting armed terrorist groups by the US and its allies. 
 
Sanctions and supporting terrorists unmasked the falsehood of “humanitarian” slogans raised by the US and its European allies, according to Al-Miqdad, who stressed that the Syrian government is keen on facilitating the work of the ICRC in Syria to fulfill its main tasks. 
The minister pointed out that the ICRC has an essential role in supporting the citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan, who are suffering from the Israeli occupations inhuman practices. 
 
For his part, Maurer praised the facilities being offered by the Syrian government to the ICRC team.
 
He indicated that the ICRC seeks to expand its  humanitarian activities in Syria in different fields, especially in the fields of health, water, electricity and education , in cooperation with the Syrian Government and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) to deliver aid to those who were affected by the ongoing crisis in Syria. 
 
Maurer praised the activities being held by the Syrian National Committee of Humanitarian International Law.  
 
The ICRC’s President was also received earlier by Interior Minister , Mohammad Al-Rahmoun, where the work of the International Committee in Syria was on the table. 
 
During the meeting, Al-Rahmoun expressed his high appreciation of the efforts being exerted by the committee in the humanitarian field, particularly providing assistance to prisons. 
 
The minister affirmed that the Syrian state is keen on securing all the requirements for citizens.
 
“The Syrian people suffer from the economic blockade and unfair sanctions being imposed on them,” Al-Rahmoun added, stressing that Syria cooperates with international organizations, including ICRC to offer the necessary assistance to facilitate their work in a way that would help the Syrian people.
 
For his part, president of ICRC thanked the Syrian state for facilitating the work of the committee, including visits to prisons, stressing the importance of coordination with it for the success of the international committee’s mission in the field of humanitarian work.
