Jurists and expatriates call on the Pope to intervene to lift the coercive measures imposed on Syria
A group of human rights defenders and journalists and more than 1,500 Syrian expatriates in the United States and Canada called on Pope Francis to intervene to lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.
In a letter received by the Pontifical Ambassador in Washington DC on March 17, the group called on Pope Francis to act urgently to address the situation in Syria, fearing a repetition of the tragedy that befell Iraq in 2003.
The group emphasized that there is no doubt that
Pope Francis will be a strong defender of peace and justice for the Syrian people.
At the end of the message, the group said: “ We urge you to act quickly on this urgent issue and to help the Syrian people after a decade of war.”
