The Ministry of Health launches a campaign (Week Without Sugar Challenge) with a sports marathon towards Umayyad Square

Damascus (ST): The Ministry of Health launched today a health awareness campaign entitled “The Week Without Sugar Challenge” that began with a sports marathon from Nejmeh Square to Umayyad Square in Damascus, which included doctors, athletes and other participants of different age groups. 

The campaign, including the marathon, aims at spreading  health awareness in the community about the harmful effect  of white sugar on public health and the need to follow a healthy lifestyle to prevent disease.

Minister of Health Dr. Hassan Al-Ghobash indicated in a press statement during the marathon that the Ministry is practicing its awareness role through this campaign in addition to its therapeutic role, expressing his hope that the message from it will reach all segments of society to reach a healthy pattern and a better health practice. 

The minister indicated that international studies have proven the negative impact of the excessive use of white sugar, like other unhealthy habits such as smoking and others, so it must be avoided .

At the end of the marathon, a series of educational and awareness-raising activities will be held in the Umayyad Square, with all precautionary measures taken to address the Coronavirus.
