Lavrov: Western coercive measures target Syrian people and hinder reconstruction process

DOHA, (ST)_ Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reiterated that the illegal western coercive economic measures target the people of Syria and hinder the process of reconstruction and the efforts being exerted to reach a solution to humanitarian questions.
 
His remarks came during a press conference held on Thursday between the Russian FM and the Foreign Ministers of the Turkish and Qatari regimes in Doha.
 
“The process of reconstruction in Syria is not easy due to the sanctions being imposed by the US and the West.. .These sanctions do not only target the Syrian government but also the people of Syria,” Lavrov said, referring to the importance of the continuity of fighting terrorism and separatist trends in Syria.   
 
He affirmed that rapprochement about the situation in Syria, including Astana talks, was reached.
 
“The three states are ready to offer full support for the UN envoy to Syria to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria and to back the work of the committee that discusses the Syrian constitution,” The Russian FM added.
 
He welcomed the consensus opinion on the return of Syria to the Arab League, affirming that this step will be good and could be achieved after the achievement of stability in the region.
