Lebanese army re-opens some of roads closed by protesters

Beirut, (ST) – Today, the Lebanese army and security forces reopened a number of roads that were closed by demonstrators protesting against the deteriorating living conditions.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported that, “as a result of tragic accidents and transgressions that took place, and in order to preserve the safety of citizens, the army began this morning to open closed roads.”

The Traffic Control Room reported partially reopening the traffic on the Jiyeh highway towards the south, as the highway from Uqayba to al-Kalb River amid a heavy deployment of the army. The Ghazir highway to Zouk Mosbeh was opened also by the army in both directions.

The army reopened the roads in Halba in the north, amid the deployment of the army, and the Beddawi highway was re-opened in both directions, near the Al-Akcomi station.

Since October 17, 2019, many Lebanese regions have witnessed demonstrations and sit-ins to protest against the deteriorating living and economic conditions and to demand the fight against corruption in the country.
