A mass demonstration of women in Istanbul in protest against the regime of Erdogan

On March 8th, hundreds of women demonstrated near Taksim Square in Istanbul, Turkey, to protest about the growing violence against women in society.

On International Women’s Day,the protesters denounced the Turkish regime’s failure to act to punish the perpetrators, with the increase in the rate of femicide in recent years.

Reuters reported that the protesters gathered on a main street in Istanbul, after the Turkish regime police closed the entrances to Taksim Square and prevented them from demonstrating there.

The rate of femicide nearly doubled between 2011 and 2019, according to a group that watched femicide.

The group  said that 51 women have been killed since the start of 2021 and 26 have died under suspicious circumstances.

A statistic prepared by the opposition Turkish Republican People’s Party revealed that 17,000 Turkish women are currently detained in the prisons of the Turkish regime, while 6,732 other women have lost their lives in murders over 19 years of rule by Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party.

The report said that the Turkish judiciary does not protect women from various types of violence and does not conduct effective investigations into what women are subjected to.
